Acheron Trading is a market maker holding a CASP license issued by the AFM in the Netherlands under MiCAR, and with authority to access all EU countries to offer its services.
Acheron Trading provides liquidity services to crypto-asset issuers from their most embryonic stages and throughout their adoption cycle. It is our belief that market inefficiency is one of the factors preventing digital assets from achieving mass adoption.
We are seeking a proactive and autonomous Compliance Officer to take ownership of the compliance function in the Netherlands, and to work closely with our group compliance team to ensure smooth compliance operations. This is a crucial role for a hands-on professional who is ready to independently manage and implement the compliance framework for a licensed trading entity.
This role is ideal for a self-starter who thrives on responsibility and wants to apply their expertise to the forefront of financial regulation and technology.
What you will be doing
● Regulatory Management: Proactively monitor, interpret, and implement procedures based on relevant regulations from the Dutch (i.e. AFM, DNB) and EU (i.e. ESMA) authorities, with a primary focus on MiCAR, the Wwft, and DORA.
● Policy Implementation: Draft, adapt, and maintain local compliance policies (e.g. AML/CFT, market abuse, etc.), ensuring they are effectively implemented and align with our global framework.
● Hands-On Surveillance: Conduct day-to-day trade surveillance to detect and investigate potential market abuse in crypto-asset markets, in line with MiCAR requirements.
● Regulatory Liaison & Reporting: Prepare and submit regulatory reports to the AFM and DNB as necessary, and assist the Head of Compliance and the Chief Risk Officer in managing regulatory inquiries.
● Risk Assessment: Perform regular compliance risk assessments on local trading activities and operational processes, and report on findings.
● Employee Training: Deliver targeted compliance training to local employees to ensure a strong understanding of their obligations.
● Onboarding Support: Manage the compliance aspects of local counterparty onboarding and due diligence.
Skills & Experience
● A degree in Law, Finance, or a related field.
● 5-8 years of hands-on compliance experience within the financial services sector in the Netherlands (e.g., trading firm, FinTech, bank, or asset manager).
● Deep, demonstrable knowledge of the Dutch Wwft and EU AML Directives.
● Strong, specific understanding of MiCAR regulation, particularly its rules on market integrity and conduct.
● Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple priorities.
Bonus Points (Highly Desirable)
● Direct professional experience in the cryptocurrency or high-frequency trading (HFT) industry.
● Experience with trade surveillance systems.
● Familiarity with DORA.
● Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CAMS).
